Sky Arts have engaged the National Council for Drama Training to facilitate an exciting training project on their behalf. Sky Arts Playhouse: Live, a new season of brand new plays from five groundbreaking playwrights, will premiere live and in high definition on Sky Arts 2 HD and Sky Arts 2 every Wednesday from 9th June. All five plays will also be performed at the Riverside Studios in the week prior to the live premiere.
Sky Arts Playhouse: Live will see brand new work from Rebecca Lenkiewicz, the first woman to have a play performed on the main stage at the National Theatre; Frank McGuiness, considered by many to be Ireland’s greatest living playwright; Mark Ravenhill, who penned the satirical shock-fest, Shopping and Fucking; Alia Bano, the Evening Standard’s Most Promising Playwright of 2009; and Eve Ensler, author of the global phenomenon, The Vagina Monologues. The Sky Arts Playhouse: Live company is led by artistic director Sandi Toksvig, and creative director Pip Broughton.
5 emerging directors will be recruited to fufill the role of Assistant Director alongside an exceptional team of writers, directors, performers and creative staff.
This project will provide theatre directors with unique insight into television production. The project is supported by the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Young Vic and Birkbeck College.
